Places and Things in Watauga County:

Watauga County shares its northern boundary with the state of Tennessee and the Cherokee National Forest. This location provides for pleasant summer weather and snowy winters, so there are several large ski resorts in the area. With its largest city of Boone and its famous resort area of Blowing Rock, the county offers places where you can live on a ski slope or a golf course, in a beautiful downtown location or in a rustic mountain lodge at 5,000 feet. There's a country club with its own airport and in the area called Elk Valley there is even a community designed around some of the best fly-fishing in the country.

The resort area of Blowing Rock includes Grandfather Mountain and a tremendous variety of sites, viewpoints and activities that have been drawing visitors from all over the country for over 100 years. There are great views and marvelous landscape almost every time you turn around, but the section of the Blue Ridge Parkway that passes through the county near Grandfather Mountain are particularly spectacular.

Suitable for either seasonal or year-round living, Watauga county has an an abundance of condominium complexes, townhomes, cabins, chalets and log homes with the options to own small, medium, or large tracts of acreage either close town or in the rural areas.

In the historic area of Valle Crucis, where evidence has been found of human habitation going back 10,000 years, there is a unique combination of rustic inns, working horse farms and modern living communities.
